We have looked at many different at home microdermabrasion machines and have put five of them to the test for you today. From that five, we selected the three best. The NEW SPA HOME portable microdermabrasion machine is in our top three – and with good reason!
Keep reading to find out why it is in our top three, how we rate it against other systems, and why you might want to give it a try:
What is this machine ?
This version of microdermabrasion system is the diamond type, which means that it doesn’t use crystals – you have already learned in our best microdermabrasion machine guide that those are better.
As a refresher, a diamond tip is better than crystals to gently slough off your skin and vacuum the dead skin cells away because you don’t need to handle messy crystals.
Why is microdermabrasion so important for your skin and beauty ?
As we age, our skin starts to thicken considerably. We go from having 5-6 layers of skin when we are young to having 7-8 as we start to age. Those extra layers are what form dark spots, wrinkles, and fine lines. Microdermabrasion allows us to get rid of that extra skin, keeping us looking fresh and young.
It is a particularly good idea for those who want to:
1.) Prevent early wrinkles and lines by slowing down skin thickening;
2.) Lighten their skin by removing that darker top layer;
3.) Set a foundation for better cosmetic absorption and application;
4.) Remove any superficial scars or imperfections through skin regeneration.

What is the company behind ?
You might have already heard of the company New Spa, because they sell many types of skin care devices. If you visit their official website, you will notice it is pretty simple and basic, and not very easy to navigate around : you can guess, from the look of it, they don’t spend tons of money on marketing, which can be considered as a good sign….
New Spa sells on Amazon, mostly, and they have a large number of positive reviews. However, keep in mind you have to read each review with a critical eye, as some of them can be fake.
Our NEW SPA microdermabrasion machine review
Getting this machine made us pretty excited, and we couldn’t wait to start playing around with it – and hopefully getting some better skin.
First Impressions
The first thing that pleased us was the case. The machine is nicely attached to the case so everything stays nice and connected – and that makes travelling much easier. yeah we love the compact size and that its all in a convenient carrying case. That makes it easy to handle.
Some even use it for home or mobile business to earn a few bucks- it sure is smart as it is compact enough to bring it to your “clients” home and the machine will pay itself and earn you some money to spend on beauty products, sweet !
It has a handy mirror attached and a few pockets next to the mirror to hold your accessories.
This machine looks like something that could do serious work – it is made out of quality materials that don’t make it seem like a child’s toy. You know those beauty tools that could double as something a 5-year old could play with.
The microdermabrasion machine is quite heavy, clocking at about 9 lbs (4 kg , 14 x 12 x 8– it isn’t too heavy not to use, but it is heavy enough so that you can get some leverage.
What accessories do we have?
The first accessory is the silicone hose, which connects the base unit that cases the vacuum to the wand itself. You also have three wands, just in case you lose a piece. Keep these replacements in a safe place!
You also have 2 stainless steel wand , where you will screw a diamond tip. You can choose among 9 diamond tips, which should last you for quite a while. Almost every machine comes with similar tips of varying sizes, this is a pack that is more or less the same for any machines with one exception: Microderm MD.
You’ll get:
- 3 large Tips: 1 Fine, 1 Medium, and 1 Coarse
- 3 medium Tips: 1 Fine, 1 Medium, and 1 Coarse
- 3 small Tips: 1 Fine, 1 Medium, and 1 Coarse
These diamond-encrusted tips have differing numbers engraved on them. Just like sandpaper (yes, the texture will feel like sandpaper), they are measured by their “grit” number. The grit refers to the size of the particles embedded , more specifically to the diameter of the particles.
What grit you need depends on your personal preferences and skin sensitivity.
Like a lot of medical supplies such as catheters and needles, the lower the number, the more coarse it is or bigger it is.
So, the smaller the grit, the more bumps and grooves are on your skin. You might want to start somewhere in the middle and find what you need.
As for us, we tried all 9 tips to see which ones we found more effective. We screwed them onto the wand and found out very quickly that you are supposed to change the tips for the different parts of your face. There is just one little problem with that – we found that one tip (the largest one) worked best on both our faces and our bodies.
I guess it depends on your skin condition and your face structures as some areas (especially nose areas) can be more difficult to reach (yeah we are all different) so it would require the smaller tip, which is provided as well.
So all in all, If there were only 2 tips, for us, it would be fine… we were 3 to test the machine and we all used the same 2 tips (we cleaned them of course each time) but as we say, better have more options than not enough. And it would be certainly different for other people.
Besides, once you get used to it, you skin may not need the same roughness so having other tips available is more than useful.
In your starter pack you will also find replacement O-rings that are black rubber rings that are used to keep the diamond tip screwed into the wand. You will find two sizes: a smaller one for the tip and a larger one for the vacuum output knob. Everything simply screws on and off easily. You simply unscrew the knob, place the “O” ring on the mouth of the output and screw the knob back on
Next you’ll find 10 and 16mm filters. These are critical for the performance of your machine. The diamond tip exfoliates your dead skin away, getting rid of the older layers of skin. The filters help to get rid of them so that they don’t clog the machine. Depending on how much dead skin you have, you will need to replace these filters fairly often, about every 2-3 uses. Each New Space Home Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion Machine has two filters, one that is smaller in the wand (10 mm) and a larger filter (10 mm) in the vacuum output.
TIP: At the first sign of suction loss, before blaming the machine, (which is very frequent when we looked at some other reviews), you should check to see if the filters are dirty and you need to replace them – this is the most frequent cause of machine trouble. If you still have problems, check the hose and make sure that nothing is blocking it (a problem if you haven’t replaced the filters in time). Simply rinse the hoses and let them dry. don’t use the hose if it is still wet….) the device is not supposed to suck water lol
How does this machine rank compared to some of the others?
Check out the 9 factors we outlined in our guide:
Suction power
Suction is, by far, one of the most important things that your machine needs to have. This one has a max suction power of 16 in/Hg – which is the average suction power for home devices.
There are about 10 different presets for use, but we found that 7 worked best for our faces and 8 worked best for our chests and hands. However, the company recommends (and we do too!) that you should start at setting 1 or 2, just to make sure you don’t hurt your skin. You would then work your way up to mid or high capacity.
Setting 7 is around 11 in/ Hg, and 8 is around 13 in/Hg.
If you know right from the start that you have a “tough “skin, and that you do need more power, or because you prefer to buy from the get go a more powerful unit, then please note that there are actually 2 NEW SPA diamond dermabrasion machines.
Beside the home grade unit, NEW SPA proposes a Professional Grade microdermabrasion device which has up to 25 Hg of suction power.
Check the professional NEW SPA Machine on Amazon
Unfortunately, compared to the machine for home use, the professional one has only a 6-month warranty and does not include the cleanser nor the serum offered with the home package.
That is why, if you need a more powerful machine with at least a full year guarantee, we recommend either the KENDAL machine or MICRODERM MD.
Diamond tip quality
2 of our testers (I am one of them) already have had some experience with microdermabrasion sessions at a beauty spa (250 $ a session) and we found that the diamond tips are pretty much the same as what professionals use…
In fact, I knew the NEW SPA brand, because I saw a microdermabrasion machine from this brand a year ago at a beauty salon. Well, The sensation, it felt the same, and it was as exfoliating.
The stainless wands and the diamond tips are definitely made to do serious work.
Tools included
The tools that came with this machine were quick and easy to install and you have everything you could possibly need (and then some) to get this machine working within minutes of opening the box. You also have replacement parts so you will never have to miss a session.
Just as a comparison, Microderm MD, another microdermabrasion system, only has a single diamond tip. So you need to buy extra tips for the body, or for sensitive skin at a price of 50 dollars….. At $50 a tip, that can add up.
New filters can be pretty cheap, on Amazon they are about $3 for a 50 count purchase. You will have to buy 16 mm filters and 10 mm filters, so that will run you about $6 for 100 pieces in total, which isn’t a big deal.
You will have to change the filters as you use the product, about every second or third time so that the machine works and filters properly.
And you can usually tell when you need to change them because the suction won’t be as strong as it is with a fresh filter
Note: we have tried to reuse some of the filters by cleaning them off, and it definitely wasn’t that easy. We scratched, we wipes, we even got them wet, and they just got flimsier and flimsier until we put a hole in them and they were useless. For how cheap they are, it isn’t worth it.
You will also get a cosmetic headband to help you keep your hair out of your face – as it definitely hurts to get your hair sucked up. You will also get 2 free products with the package : an Organic Sulphate free facial cleanser (used for before treatment care) and their Total Restore Serum ( used for after treatment care) which is called a DMAE Serum
Both of these products will help your session run more smoothly, but aren’t available with the professional grade machine because it is used for spas and the company considers that they already have all of these products by their preferred brands.
We were told by NEW SPA that they chose to offer them with their home use device so that Customers can get full advantage of a treatment in their own home as they would in a Salon or Spa.
However, you can’t find any ingredient list in the details of the package so it is hard for any potential customer to know if they are worth it.
Don’t worry, here at myawesomebeauty.com, we got you covered, and want you to make the most informed buying decision (we certainly need as much information as possible).
Here are the ingredients lists:
NEW SPA Skin Care Collection Sulphate Free Facial Cleansing Gel
Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Decyl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Vegetable Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Xanthan Gum (Polysaccharide Gum), Tetra sodium EDTA, dl-Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5). PH 4.5-5.5
Application method:
Pour a small amount of the gel on your palm or cotton pad. Moisten the skin and apply the cleansing gel using a circular motion. Massage the skin slightly with the tips of your fingers. Rinse and dry your face.
This is a pretty simple facial cleanser, which is sulphate and paraben free, it is also unscented for those who care. And the cheery on the cake is that it contains provitamin B5 (a powerful moisturiser). We would prefer the pH to be more close to that of human skin which is 5.5-6.5.
NEW SPA Skin Care Collection DMAE Serum Total Restore.
Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Vegetable Glycerin, Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE), Limnanthes alba (Meadowfoam Seed) Oil, Emulsifying Wax, Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), Spirulina maxima (Blue Green Algae) Extract, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Phenoxyethanol, Salix nigra (Black Willowbark) Extract, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Oleoresin, Azadirachta indica (Neem) Oil, Xanthan Gum (Polysaccharide Gum), Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric Acid (pH: 4.5 – 5.5)
Application method: Apply a pea size drop to your face and distribute evenly. Allow the product to be absorbed and then apply your usual cream or sun-block.
The serum is pretty impressive with its formulation packed with a high proportion of actives. It combines some of the most advanced skin care ingredients such as DMAE (promotes skin firmness) and MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) which has anti-inflammatory properties and boosts the formation of new collagen. Yet, we found the pH (the acidity level of the product) a bit too acid, the product pH is around 4.5-5.5 and should match that of human skin which is anywhere between 5.5-6.5. That is why we felt the serum “burns” a little. It was of course only temporary, and lasted only one minute. Of course, if it had been a kind of peel product, an acid pH would have been necessary….
So all in all, the cosmetics are good quality but would need some tweaking to be perfect for us.
The Results we got
We were thrilled with the results that we got: smooth, silky, younger looking skin. Our oldest tester found that she had great improvement with her frontal fine lines. After some time, she also found that her hyperpigmentation was getting better (it took about 7 sessions). The age spots faded and reduced the number of products that she had to use on a daily basis. We also found that we had to wear less make up because we didn’t so much full coverage foundations or corrections.
By the way, we were not the only ones to be satisfied by this unit, we also found many positive reviews about this machine on Amazon.
In fact, to be fair there is not much difference between the results of our Top 3 when you use the same power. So for a given suction power under 16 in/Hg, you will get similar results with Kendal or New spa or Microderm MD. So that is not here the real decision maker but the other criteria….
Ease to use
Microdermabrasion isn’t exactly rocket science. All you have to do is move the wand around your face and wait for it to exfoliate and suck. The hardest part is honestly setting up the machine: attaching the hose, fixing the wand and the tip, putting in the filters, and figuring out where the power switch is. Needless to say, that was all quite easy (even without reading the instruction manual, because we like a challenge) and it took only a few minutes. The case is also convenient to use and we would recommend using it whenever possible, especially for travel.
If you are a newbie to using a microdermabrasion machine, you might find that the instructions are lacking. Some people could even hurt themselves because they go in thinking they can handle much more than they really can. For some people, we might even recommend the Microderm MD over this one, just because it has an LCL screen and a useful auto mode that will guide any newbies to get up and running. The learning curve really isn’t steep, but it is better to be safe rather than sorry.
The robustness and longevity
The machine, as we have already said, feels solid and like it will last for a very long time. Still, this is an investment and you will need to take care of it. Use the case, store it properly, use replacement filters and parts when necessary, and be gentle.
Regarding longevity, we can’t really say much as we need more time to test it but after checking hundreds of reviews on the Internet, we just have a gut feeling that it won’t be a problem with this particular model.
Warranty
This machine comes with a standard full year warranty, which is pretty much what most other brands will offer. On the other hand, the professional grade machines (with a 25in/hg suction power) will only come with a 6 – month warranty. ( as a side note: The warranty starts from the purchase date and continues through to 6 months or 12 months depending on the machine you chose)
We would have preferred to have the same warranty for the professional grade device as for the home use machine. But we guess the reason behind is that the professional grade is expected to get used much more intensively. (Like 10 times per day 6 days a week) so it is understandable.
Support and customer care
That leads us right into the next topic: customer support. Though we really don’t think you will use it all too much with this product, it is still nice to know the company behind the brand name and logo.
While we didn’t run into any problems, we did decide to run a test. We sent out several emails to see how long it would take the company to respond. We found out that they responded within 24 hours and we got a VERY detailed response that answered all our questions and so much more. They were willing to talk us through problems and help us in any way they could. That is customer care at its best ( a quick hello to mary who really was awesome at answering all our queries).
Price
The price of this machine is $189, and for all that it does and the accessories that are included in the pack, we think this is very reasonable.
The professional grade machine comes in at $250 – also a steal for the power range. For an extra $60 you can get more powerful, so if you have the extra cash, it seems like a no brainer.
The only thing that bothers us is the 6 month warranty for the professional machine.
Compared to other products that are similar, it is definitely cheaper than one of the most popular devices, the Microderm MD which retails for about $300. Plus it comes with more accessories, diamond tips, and filters than that one does.
If you put it into perspective (especially if $250 is giving you some sticker shock) you will pay anywhere between $250-$300 for a microdermabrasion session – which means that in about one session, this baby pays for itself.
You will get younger skin at home, without paying or having someone else touch you. This is by far one of our favorite anti-aging skincare products and probably the one you should choose if you want your products to work better and your skin to look fresher. Everything you use on your face will be more effective, and you will see fewer wrinkles and bright coloring.

Cons

Our verdict
This New Spa microdermabrasion machine is one of the best MD machines on the market, and is reliable for your anti-aging needs. Many spas recommend it and now we can to! It also offers hands down the most complete package of accessories (filters, wands, tips, headband, a cleanser and a serum)
This machine would be best for newbies who really want the most cost effective microdermabrasion machine. It has enough power and is well priced with a very nice package. (16hg of suction power is sufficient for home use as you would start at the lowest intensity and work your way up to mid or high capacity.)
if you want to buy it, amazon is the best place for this machine as the official distributor sells it on amazon:
However, its suction power (16 in /Hg) may not be high enough for some of you, as let’s face it, a more powerful machine offers more possibilities and microdermabrasion sessions closer to what you can get with professionals. That is why they are 3rd in our Top 3 ranking.
If you want more power or don’t want to waste your time buying a 16in/Hg machine and later buy a 25-28 in/Hg machine, you may think the NEW SPA PROFESSIONAL grade machine would be the right fit, but with only a 6 month warranty, we do think you’d better consider either the Kendal machine or Microderm MD which both offer more power and a minimum of 12 month warranty.
