This review will cover some of the pros and cons about this machine. As always, at myawesomebeauty.com, we based our opinion upon research, reviews, and testing of the product.
One thing to keep your eyes on: there are currently some rumors about a suction problem with the NuBrilliance, and our review will definitely talk about that.
Let’s see what else there is to know about the NuBrilliance
Contents
What is it?
Just like many of the other machines that we have reviewed, the NuBrilliance is another diamond-tip microdermabrasion machine – much like many of the other at home machines that you can find. It works just like the others, with perhaps some different results.
Now, if you already know what microdermabrasion machines do, then you can go ahead and skip this part. If you don’t, pay attention:
Any microdermabrasion machine worth its weight in salt will do two major things:
- Put pressure on your skin to allow the diamond tip to effectively exfoliate the top layer of your skin.
- Suck up that skin that was sloughed off so that it doesn’t lay on your skin and reenter your pores.
There are a few other things that you should know about this machine:
- You will be able to choose from 5 different levels of suction power.
- There will also be 3 different types of tips: a fine grit tip for your face and neck, and a regular grit tip for another area of your body and a precision tip for more delicate areas.
This machine is designed with the busy woman or man in mind: just take it out at home and use it for about 10 minutes to get the maximum benefit!
What comes with the NuBrilliance?
When you get your NuBrilliance, it comes with the following:
- The NuBrilliance dual action system
- Fine, Coarse, and Precision diamond tips
- 30 Disposable filters
- DVD explanation of how to use the system.
Who is the distributor?
Emson is the manufacturer of the NuBrilliance, and they are one of the most famous companies in beauty tools. They were founded 65 years ago, and since then, have been ahead of the curve in their products that span many different industries – chances are that you have had something from one of their amazing oil less fryers!
My Nubrilliance microdermabrasion system review
Look, when I review something I really like to focus on the things that really impress me – call me a bleeding heart, but I don’t like to diss something that took people a long time to create.
Now, the NuBrilliance system might just be one of the cutest microdermabrasion machines (check the grey one here )that I have ever seen. However, what is on the inside doesn’t quite match the inside….
First impression
Looks can be deceiving, and when you first see this product, there is no way that you will really know just how chintzy and cheap this product is.
It is really light, which might be a benefit to some people, but the attachments and the machine itself feel easily breakable and don’t look like they would hold up for a long time.
It really felt like one of those plastic toys that you would buy for a little girl to play with. Even so, it definitely isn’t a child’s toy because one little topple to the floor, and you will have to throw it away!
Ok so what accessories do we have?
If you have read any of our other reviews, this is usually one of the longest sections. However, when you compare this machine to the others, you will find that this one is really lacking.
You get the 3 diamond tips and 30 filters – and that’s it.
Of course, you get the three different grits, which is pretty much the most basic stuff you can get.
The filters won’t last you long, as you need to change them every 2-3 uses to get the most out of your machine. Come on! 30 filters, that is a bit stingy…
The DVD is a nice touch though to help you learn how to use your machine.
Suction power
As always, we find that suction power is the most important part of any machine. This one, as you might have expected, had the least amount of suction power out of any of the machines that we tested. It did seem powerful for the first half dozen or so attempts, but it then started to get weaker. We even changed the filters, but didn’t really see a change.
As we were curious, we decided to look into the machine to see what was wrong. We found that it was almost completely clogged – even though we used filters after a few uses. Some parts of the device also seem to be too poorly fit together (a small rubber band that helps suction pops off almost all the time, which ultimately makes your device broke, with no more sucking power…)
The NuBrilliance isn’t anyone’s favorite either it seems, going from the reviews we have been able to find online.
The main problem seems to be the suction, which is really everything that a microdermabrasion system needs. Most people saw the problem after 4 weeks, but our trial saw the malfunctioning at about 6 weeks – it all depends how you use your machine.
The quality of the diamond tips
The diamond tips that come with this system are unlike anything else we have used in at-home microdermabrasion. The NuBrilliance ones may be designed to work only with this system. Sure, it’s a smart way to make more money, but we did not find them to be very hight quality.
They do exfoliate your skin, but we felt they would have to be replaced very quickly, and they aren’t cheap.
Tools
You’ve already read about how we didn’t like the package that came with too few accessories, but really, it needs to be stressed again. Sure, we’ve complained in the past about machines offering accessories we didn’t need, but this doesn’t even offer the ones we do!
30 filters is far too few, especially when other companies offer at least 100. Of course, you need to use the NuBrilliance brand filters as well, which cost $14.95 for 30 filters (Kendal uses filters that cost $5 for 60). The tips aren’t cheap either, as each tip replacement with 10 filters costs $19.95.
Those costs start adding up quickly!
Results
Before the loss of suction, the machine actually did give us good results. Still, even with the “good” results, they weren’t up to par with the other machines. I think their tips are not as exfoliating as the others, which explain the lower results.
Ease to use
The machine is very easy to use when it works or when it has some suction power because without suction power, the machine is a bit useless….
The robustness and longevity
We are going to be clear; this machine is too poorly built to last, sorry to be blunt.
Warranty
Now, with a machine that we think will break so much, a 3-year warranty sounds great, right? That’s true, it is a really good warranty; however, you will probably spend more time sending the machine in to cash in on the warranty than you will actually using the machine. Don’t waste your time with a machine that you know you will have to trade in before you even buy it.
Also, we have heard rumors that the customer support isn’t great, and you might not even be able to get your machine fixed in all situations.
Support
We wanted to do our own research, so we contacted customer service ourselves. We found that they always answered our questions. However, we didn’t reach out and actually try to get them to fix our machine, as we could clearly see where the problem was, that rubber band thing.
We admit we were a little influenced by all the negative reviews about the customer support and we were a bit short on time so we could spend time on it (sorry)
Even if it had been repaired, the results being not as great as with other machines, we would not really use it.. So whether support is good or not, it would not make it to the final 3.
Price
The price is definitely a turn off for us: $249 for such a device with poor quality and poor suction power… plus the high prices of tips and filters, this is definitely a machine to make money…. And not a machine for us.
Overview
Pros
- Aesthetically, the grey color machine is beautiful.
Cons
- Too expensive for what you get
- Suction is poor, and malfunctioning is too frequent
- Accessories cheaply made
- Filters and tips too expensive
- Tips aren’t as exfoliating as some of the others
Our Final verdict
This microdermabrasion machine is definitely not the one that you are looking for if you are looking for a no-nonsense, easy, efficient way to do at home microdermabrasion.
With the suction power issue, the high prices of accessories and the average results, this machine is definitely one to skip over and certainly doesn’t belong to our TOP 3 microdermabrasion machines
So, for us, it is a big NO, as long as this company does not work seriously to fix that rubber band issue and as long as they don’t improve the diamond tips….in June 2015, it seems to be still the case… so avoid it for the time being
