Did you bleach your hair and end up with fried, damaged and over bleached hair ? Yep, I suppose you do if  you are reading this article about how to repair bleached hair 🙂

Well, we wrote a complete guide to teach you how to fix damaged hair with several methods for you to choose depending on your level of hair damage, and budget.

With the right products, you can definitely repair them without being compelled to live with hair that feels like straw.

To do so, we have a 4-week hair repair treatment for you to follow or if you prefer a much faster method, you can try what we call the miracle treatment ( we were a bit skeptical at first but we were amazed by the results, this method is a real life changer for those who bleach hair frequentely ). This treatment is so awesome that most hair salon owners don’t want clients to buy the products and to do it themselves….

And for those who only swear by homemade DIY recipes, we have you covered as well 🙂

So let’s get started.

But first, let’s have a little science talk with a closer look at the bleaching process before we get into everything so we understand how hair reacts to a bleaching agent and how it is damaged.

What is hair bleach?

What is hair bleach ?

Do you know the kind of bleach your mom uses to clean your kitchen, your bathroom and your clothes? That kind of bleach is not the same thing as hair bleach. They’re not the same products. The term “bleach” is merely an umbrella term for a chemical that cleans, lightens or removes stains or spots.

  • Cleaning or household bleach is sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) – a chemical compound for disinfection and purification. Aside from how we use it at home, it is also used in water sanitation and food equipment sanitation. Because of its composition and use, it is deemed toxic and dangerous when ingested or applied directly to hair.
  • Hair bleach, on the other hand, is also called lightener, yep hair bleach = lightener, the main ingredient used is usually hydrogen peroxide, aka peroxide, which is a bleaching liquid. Peroxyde is often associated or combined with other ingredients called boosters to speed up the bleaching process such as ammonium persulfate or potassium persulfate. The ammonia works as a catalyst that will activate the peroxide.

Your hair gets it color from this pigment: melanin. There are 2 types of melanins: phaeomelanin and eumelanin but the quantity of the pigments varies with the hair color.

In a nutshell, the more melanin you have in your hair, the darker it is…. (The same goes for skin and eyes etc….) So, if your hair totally loses its melanin, it will look white…

When hair bleach is applied to hair, an irreversible chemical reaction (oxidation) happens that results in the lightening of the color of the hair.

More precisely, hydrogen peroxide softens the cuticle of the hair, goes into the hair shaft and reacts with the natural hair pigment (melanin) by oxidation, which breaks them down into components that will be washed out of your hair.

Because the melanin pigments are removed from the hair, you get lighter hair. Yep, it is as simple as that.

How does bleach damage hair then ? ( which leads to fried hair)

In the process, the hair bleach doesn’t just break down the components of the hair’s pigment.

It also breaks down the fatty acids on the hair shaft, making the strand dry and weak when you have over bleached hair or fried hair.

It also permanently raises the hair cuticle (the outermost part of the hair shaft), which leads to rapid and continuous loss of moisture. Think of it as if the hair coat was permanently open so the inner moisture is lost. So, no wonder bleached hair is porous, dry, brittle, weak and is prone to breakage and split ends. This damage is permanent and is worse the longer you bleach.

How to repair bleached hair : 4 rules to follow with damaged, bleached or fried hair

So, how to repair hair from bleach ?

First, don’t panic. ( yeah I know easier said than done)

Before trying our 4-week treatment or even better the miracle treatment that the hair industry calls revolutionary ( we agree for once), if your hair is newly bleached, you have to make sure that less to no further damage happens to it.

Yep, you currently have damaged or fried hair so it is vulnerable to most chemical and non-chemical processes. And because your hair lacks oil and keeps losing moisture, we need to strengthen it by bringing moisture, and products that will help close the cuticle so the hair can retain moisture and be stronger.

This means that you should keep in mind 4 rules depending on the level of your hair damage :

Rule 1: Avoid harsh shampoos for at least a week or stick to cleansing conditioners

avoid harsh shampoosIf you thought we were going to recommend you to stop washing your hair for a week, then don’t worry; you don’t have to do so…. We know some people keep giving this piece of advice but in our opinion, this is absolutely not necessary. It was maybe true in the past where hair products were not as effective but its is not the case anymore….

First let’s understand why many people think bleached hair cannot be washed…

In fact, regular shampoos tend to strip hair of its natural oils and it’s not what you want.

Constant use of shampoos while your hair is damaged might worsen its dryness. Moreover, if you have an oily scalp, not using shampoo for a week allows your natural oils to just condition your scalp and your hair.

That is true but we have ways to get around it.

Seriously, would you be willing to skip washing your hair for a week ? … Ok, if you were living alone on an island.. Yep probably, but in real life that can be a tad more complicated….

So what can you do?

I would recommend you to try instead of regular shampoos some cleansing conditioners like the coconut cowash cleansing conditionner here on Amazon. These types of cleansing conditioners will help “clean” your hair but won’t be as drying as a regular shampoo, will not strip off your natural oils but, instead, will add extra moisture to your newly bleached hair.

Another possibility is to make sure your regular shampoo does not contain too harsh surfactants, which are the detergent substances that help get rid of dirt and excess oil: avoid Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES).

One shampoo we love here and which is super duper gentle and nourishing is this SLS free argan shampoo here on Amazon that damaged bleached hair loves.

Rule 2: Goodbye ironing and blow-drying!

avoid hair ironing

Blow-drying, ironing and other styling tools that apply heat directly to the hair will further damage it.

Lay off on using any of these styling tools, at least for the time being.

Because you just damaged your hair, it would be ideal (as mentioned earlier) to prevent further damage to it.

Even if you spray on or apply a heat protecting product, blow-drying and ironing will still damage hair but to a lesser degree and strip off its natural moisture.

A thermal hair protector spray we found on Amazon will give you protection but not full protection against the damaging heat. So, maybe for a while, lock your styling tools inside one drawer and just let your hair be. Let them be free 🙂

Rule 3: Stack up on conditioners and precious oils…

overuse oils and hair conditioners

Ok here come the big guns you need to bring out to repair your damaged or over bleached hair.

To the question : how to treat damaged bleached hair ? Repeat this statement over and over again: “Conditioners are my new best friends”. These are very useful treatment after bleaching hair

Never let go a day without treating your hair to some conditioners because they will definitely quench your hair of its thirst (and yes, your hair does get thirsty).

It’s not just the regular conditioner that you have to stack up on. You also have to have a leave-in hair conditioner to really help your hair retain its moisture throughout the day. This is especially true during extremely hot and cold weather. And that combination is a powerful tool to save your hair.

Take a look at the really nice silk 18 natural conditioner maple holistics here on Amazon that can be used regularly  and the super famous 10 miracle leave – in Plus Keratin conditioner via Amazon (be careful, if you give it a try, pick the one with keratin not the regular one )

Rule 4: Do deep conditioning to help reconstruct your hair.

use deep conditioners

Deep conditioning hair is different from just applying daily hair conditioner.

It’s somewhat like daily conditioner because it also conditions the hair’s surface, but the difference is that deep conditioners have low molecular weight ingredients which pass through barriers, allowing it to penetrate to the deeper layers like the cuticle and the cortex ( the center ) of a hair strand.

A great product that we love is the bestseller deep conditionner mask with argan oil from art naturals here via Amazon

So, those are four rules that you can initially follow as general guidelines about how to fix damaged bleached hair or with any other chemical or physical processes.

In case you didn’t pick up on it, the main thing is to allow for your hair to retain moisture while preventing further damage to it and to help make it stronger and shinier.

Think of these four tips or rules as the foundation for your hair care regimen. You can edit one step out, change a product, add one more step or focus on other techniques to revive your hair but you have to make sure that you’re doing all 4 until your hair is back or close to its former healthy self.

Our 4-week treatment for bleached hair or fried hair

If your hair is damaged, you might want to try our 4-week treatment. Of course, if the treatment is not enough, your hair might probably be too damaged and you could maybe try the miracle treatment that we will discuss in the next section which is definitely the treatment we mostly recommend.  Or, you could either seek the help of some hair experts in salons.

our 4 week hair repairing treatment to repair bleached hair

Keep in mind, with this bleached hair repair method, you might get heavier hair for the first week but bear with it, it is on purpose. That is the most important week where we need to over saturate your hair shaft with good fatty acids, keratin to “reconstruct” what was damaged. We want to get back a stronger coat on it.

Please also keep in mind that you can absolutely tweak the treatment depending on your own situation and liking. Nothing is set in stone. Some cases might not need such big guns and may be back in the saddle right after a few days of treatment…

1 st Week of Treatment

Every day follow the same routine starting at night about 3 hours before sleeping in the following order:

  1. Coconut oil mask we used this brand from Amazon to leave in for 3 hours
  2. SLS free shampoo like this one from Amazon or cleansing conditioner like this one via Amazon
  3. Deep hair conditioning mask ( we used this brand from Amazon) for the night (you can wear a reusable shower cap such as this one on Amazon for the night)
  4. Rinse in the morning
  5. Leave in conditionner with keratin ( we used this famous product from Amazon)
  6. Air dry your hair
  7. Have a nice day 🙂

Coconut oil is a must have for many reasons; we love it here at myawesomebeauty.com. The great thing about coconut oil (love that brand here on Amazon) for hair is that it penetrates the hair shaft to moisturize from within and help to repair damaged hair… that is a surefire way to get back stronger and healthier hair. Of course the more hair you have, the more coconut oil you will use.

Massage some coconut oil into your hair; focus of course on the hair and not on your scalp.

Wrap your hair in a bun and let the coconut oil mask soak for at least 3 hours, yep I know it is long but you want your hair to absorb it as much as possible. You can wrap your hair with a towel or wear a reusable and washable shower cap like this one here on Amazon to make it more convenient and increase the heat. We found that moderate heat improves the mask effectiveness. (We said moderate… don’t use the airdryer haha)

After 3 hours, you are ready to wash you hair. Remember to use either a SLS free shampoo like this one on Amazon or a cleansing conditioner like this one via Amazon: both are very mild and will simply remove any dirt or oil excess. We have just used some coconut oil, most have penetrated in the hair shaft but we also want to keep some as a protective hair coat so we don’t want to use a super harsh shampoo.

Right after rinsing the shampoo, gently towel dry your hair. Now it is time for the deep conditioner mask like this one from Amazon.

Apply a generous amount of the deep conditioner to your hair, we recommend you to use a comb to make sure the product is evenly distributed. Focus on the hair that is damaged.

Here again, if you want, you can wrap your hair with a towel or use a shower cap which is a bit more recommended as you will let the mask sit all night… yep, we said all night so the conditionner can really penetrate the hair shaft. That should also help you avoid ruining your pillow… (Use an extra towel to protect your pillow, just saying….)

We told you this is an intensive treatment but believe us, for some cases, that is necessary….

Have a good night with sweet dreams.

In the following morning, it is freedom time. Rinse your hair thoroughly. Towel dry

And finally last step, spray or apply the leave in conditionner (We used this famous product here from Amazon, make sure to pick the product with keratin, not the regular one) all over hair and comb through. Of course, do not rinse.

You are ready to go out… Enjoy your day 🙂

2nd week of treatment

Follow the 1st week daily routine only 4-3 times: for example on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

The other days simply do what your want. Some keep the same regimen, others don’t touch their hair at all. Whatever you choose, if you do wash your hair, remember to apply the leave in conditionner afterwards though.

3rd week of treatment

Follow the 1st week daily routine 2 times: for example on Tuesday and Friday

The other days, you can skip the coconut oil mask and the deep conditionner mask.

4th week of treatment

Follow the 1 st week daily routine once: you choose the day 😉

The other days, simply stick with the gentle sls free shampoo or cleansing conditionner with the leave in conditionner.

What about after the 4-week treatment?

We recommend you to keep the 4th week regimen every coming week.

After this intensive 4-week treatment, you should definitely have repaired your bleached hair or at least saved some inches.

Ok, we agree this 4 week treatment is not the most convenient routine and that was, for a long time, the only route to go to fix damaged bleached hair.

BUT that was before the launch of a truly revolutionary hair system that seriously changed the industry. I was skeptical at first too, you know we are so used to hearing all the same old mumbo jumbo that sometimes we simply don’t take things seriously.

Believe me, I was wrong. There is one miracle hair treatment that can really save your bleached or very damaged hair, that many hair stylists and colorists keep raving about. We saw the awesome results after only one treatment and this is really a treatment that can be called magic. No need of 4 weeks of treatment here, one single treatment will do the trick.

The miracle hair treatment that will repair your fried / bleached hair after one single application.

the miracle hair treatment

If someones asks me: what is the best hair treatment for bleached hair? I would without a doubt say olaplex.

This is a professional treatment that is proposed by a few hair salons as a VIP exclusive treatment BUT because the treatment is totally safe and so easy to use, it is also available to the final client. And that, believe me, pisses off the big majority of hair salon owners….

Yep, you can buy this treatment, the very same products purchased by the professionals and do it yourself.

This treatment is described as the miracle hair treatment to repair damaged hair whether by chemical or thermal processes. They also call this treatment the RESET BUTTON for client’s hair to rebuild the hair strength, structure and integrity. (If only I could do the same for some love issues haha)

How does it Work?

Chemical (bleach, coloring etc???) and thermal processes break the chemical bonds (the famous disulfide bonds) between your hair molecules or proteins (keratin). That leads to dry hair and breakage. this treatment, called Olaplex via Amazon, via a very simple process help to recreate and reform those broken bonds, which means, you get back silky soft and stronger hair.

So bleached hair and heat damaged hair can both benefit from this treatment.

Guy tang, Tracey Cunningham, Bianca hieller are super famous hair gurus who swear by it… Kim kardashian is a big big fan of it…. so, we know we are onto something…

Here is a video from the super lovely and awesome mandie: we love you!!!

You will see exactly how it works, how to apply and use the olaplex treatment, thanks mandie for this awesome video 🙂  ( the references of the products recommended by mandie are  below the video after a few paragraphs if you want to know what we think of them)

We bought the Olaplex system here from Amazon or you can buy the olaplex travel hair kit here via Amazon which is more affordable.

Some hair salon charges you $100-200 for only ONE single olaplex treatment while you can directly buy the products and have a year worth of treatments for around $190, which gives you about 70 olaplex treatments depending on the length of your hair, the frequency of treatments…

Let’s do some math here: $190 for 70 applications; that means one application will cost your around $2,9 ! ( vs $100-200 for the same treatment in a salon)

Yep, I know the pricing difference is crazy, that is why you will find many fake reviews from people who are often salon owners who are a bit pissed off by this turn over loss…..and who want you to think you cannot use or do it yourself…

Tip: You can also buy a package and share it with your friends or family. If you bleach your hair a lot, you’d better keep it for yourself haha.

We also tested a few products mandie recommends:

  • Pillow proof blow dry two day extender dry shampoo via Amazon: love it, I am not so much into dry shampoo as I love the feeling of cleanlyness from water but it really works great when you don’t want to shampoo your hair everyday.
  • Redken Extreme Anti Snap Leave is Treatment 8.5 oz via Amazon: we have not tested it yet so can’t tell you but it is on our to do list 🙂
  • Matrix Oil Wonders Indian Amla Strengthening Oil – 4.2 oz via Amazon: ok this one, sorry mandie, we love you but we don’t agree with you on this one as this is basically almost only silicones in a bottle….I prefer coconut oil (on Amazon)without a doubt here.
  • Pureology Hydrate Shampoo 33.8 oz and Condition 33.8 oz Duo Set via Amazon: we haven’t tested these products from this brand yet, another thing to add to our list to try 🙂

So let’s get back to our olaplex treatment. Mandie’s video is pretty self explanatory.

How to Use it ?

You have 3 bottles:

  • Olaplex number 1 (called bond multiplier) which has about 100 % active ingredient : it is the concentrate
  • Olaplex number 2 (called bond perfector) which has about 15 % active ingredient : it is the cream form
  • Olaplex number 3 which has about 10 % active ingredient : it is the maintenance product ( in cream form too)

For the main treatment you will use the Olaplex bottle 1 and 2.

First we need to attach the dosing dispenser on the bottle 1.

  • Attach straw to the dosing dispenser.
  • Remove cap from Olaplex bottle 1 and attach the dosing dispenser to it. (Make sure the threads are securely fitted to avoid any leakage. The product is gold so you don’t want to waste a drop)

The Bond strenghtening and repairing Treatment:

  • Lightly shake the bottle 1.
  • Remove the small cap to the dosing dispenser and squeeze the bottle to release the product.
  • Mix 1/2 oz (15ml) of Olaplex bottle 1 with 3oz (90ml) of water in a non-spraying applicator bottle. (Do not use a spray bottle.)
  • Apply from roots to ends on damp hair (dry hair is possible too but with wet / damp hair, it takes less time to fully saturate the hair)  (You may give a light shampoo to remove product build up if necessary.) The idea is really to saturate hair and comb through well to spread the product evenly.  Tip: use a little water container to collect the mix and reuse it to saturate hair several times.
  • massage a little. Leave on for 10 minutes.
  • Now time to use the Olapex bottle 2.
  • You don’t rinse your hair still saturated with the product from bottle 1. Apply a generous amount of olaplex bottle 2, massage your hair and use a comb to spread evenly.
  • Leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes. Process longer than 10 minutes  for extremely damaged hair. The longer it’s on, the more effective it is, especially for hair that is extremely damaged. We have seen awesome results from people who leave it on 30 to 60 minutes!
  • Rinse, shampoo, and condition.
  • Your hair should look awesome !

The Maintenance Phase

The olaplex bottle 3 is normally the at home product for the client to be used once a week. It is the retail version of the olaplex system, which contains basically the same active as the bottle 1 and 2 but in lower concentrations. It helps maintain your results.

Here is a video by the gorgeous Isabelle ( who had the Olaplex treatment done in a hair salon and who bought the olaplex bottle 3 for the maintenance – remember you need to get the bottle 1 and bottle 2 for the professional treatment. Without them, the bottle 3 won’t get you very far…. because it is the maintenance product)

How to use the olaplex bottle N° 3 ?

  • wet your hair
  • apply a good amount of product on towel dried hair
  • massage, comb through to make sure all your hair got covered.
  • leave on for at least 10 minutes ( you can leave it on longer if you like, like 20-30 minutes)
  • rinse, shampoo and condition your hair.

You will usually use it once a week.

Et voilà !!! the good thing is with this olaplex method we found on Amazon you definitely know how to fix bleached hair.

Ok so you see the treatment is super easy to apply and use. However, this treatment is not cheap. If you can afford to buy it (remember it is a professional product that you will use at home to avoid paying a fortune in super expensive hair salons) it is really worth it because this product really delivers. We are not the only ones to be amazed by it. But if you can’t, you can still stick to our 4-week treatment, which is more affordable or try our homemade recipes.

Yep, you know we also like to explore the homemade route that can sometimes be effective too and save us some bucks. In this case for bleached and damaged hair, let’s be clear, the products we tested above were much more effective. It is a no brainer…However, the homemade solutions can be really interesting to maintain and give some boost to your dry hair or to help repair mildly damaged hair.

those DIY recipes could definitely be used after the Olaplex treatment or the 4th week of our intensive treatment as a maintenance conditioning mask.

The homemade Approach to Repairing Bleached Damaged Hair

10 homemade hair masks for bleached hair

This article about how to treat bleached hair would not be complete without the homemade approach. Depending on the hair treatment recipe you choose, this may be the most affordable way to repair your hair as you may find most of your ingredients in your kitchen. In other words, you’re going to DIY your way to stronger and healthier hair.

Tip: if you have some leftover, you can use it on your face a a face mask. 🙂

You will find here 10 recipes to try at home. Frequency of use : Two times a week as a conditioner or as necessary.

Now, on to the recipes!

The Beer coconut hair mask

the beer coconut hair mask

What you’ll need:

  • ½ cup of tradditional brewed beer (made from hops) to get the most nutrients (many commercial beers are so loaded with chemicals and additives, that they are a bit useless for hair….)
  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil via Amazon
  • a mixing bowl

Procedure:

  1. Pour beer into the mixing bowl and let it sit until it becomes de-carbonated.
  2. Add in your oil( it won’t mix well as there is no emulsifier but is is fine)
  3. Apply the mixture to your hair from ends to roots
  4. Let it sit for 20 minutes.
  5. shampoo and rinse your hair with cool water.

Admittedly, it’s an unlikely hair mask. Beer is not the most glamourous stuff to use on hair but the proteins in malt and hops are said to have awesome coating and hair nourishing properties, which is perfect for damaged hair. Beer also has some maltose and sucrose sugars that can help to tighten the hair cuticles, which makes your hair shine again…. so remember, beer will help plump up the tresses, giving moisture and life to damaged and limp hair. The coconut oil is definitely the king oil for hair; that is why we did use it in our 4-week treatment, it doesn’t only moisturize but it also helps strengthen hair and renew its vitality

The cocolive Oil hair mask Treatment

the coco olive hair mask

What you’ll need:

  • A cup of pure coconut oil via Amazon
  • 1 tablespoon of extra virgin oil
  • A mixing bowl

Procedure:

  1. In your mixing bowl, add in your coconut oil, 1 tsp of extra virgin olive oil.
  2. Mix them together.
  3. Scoop a handful of it using your clean hands and apply it unto your hair.
  4. Massage it unto your scalp and apply it down to the length of your hair. Concentrate on your ends.
  5. When all of your hair is coated with the mixture, put your shower cap on.
  6. Leave it on for 30 to 40 minutes. (Yeah you can leave it longer; like the whole night)
  7. Shampoo (keep using a sls free shampoo or a cleansing conditionner) and Rinse.

All these oils are very powerful ones. Coconut oil is a no brainer for sure. The extra virgin olive oil will help strengthen your hair some more and prevent breakage.

The Honey and coconut Hair Treatment

the honey coconut hair mask

What you’ll need:

  • ¼ cup of honey
  • ¼ cup of coconut oil via Amazon
  • A mixing bowl

Procedure:

  1. Mix all of the ingredients in your bowl.
  2. Apply the mixture to your hair. Things will get messy and sticky.
  3. Massage hair.
  4. Put on your shower cap
  5. Leave the mixture on for at least 60 minutes.
  6. Shampoo (sls free or cleansing conditionner) and rinse.

We repeat it again here. Coconut oil is just one heck of a natural moisturizer. Honey, on the other hand, also has ultra-moisturizing properties; it is a natural humectant and even has antibacterial properties (which is interesting for the scalp to help with dandruff and itchy scalp)

The Egg and Avocado hair mask

the egg avocado hair mask

What you’ll need:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Mixing bowl
  • Mashing and mixing tools

Procedure:

  1. Remove the pit of the avocado.
  2. Using whatever mashing tool you have, scrape the meat unto the bowl and mash it.
  3. When you don’t see chunks anymore, add in one egg yolk and mix.
  4. Apply the mixture to your WET hair. Don’t forget to massage your scalp.
  5. Leave the mixture on for 20 minutes at least.
  6. Rinse with water. (don’t use hot water ) I prefer to wash my hair but some prefer to rinse it only… anyway, repeat the rinsing if you still have some of the mixture left on your hair.

As a side story, when I was younger, don’t ask me how, but I ended up with a cracked egg on my head. I had to keep that sticky stuff on my hair for a few hours as I was stuck in the traffic jam… When I finally reached home and could wash my hair, I noticed my hair was much softer and shinier… from that day on, you bet I used eggs in my hair routine whenever I could.

The simple Olive Oil or Argan Oil hair mask

the simple olive or argan oil hair mask

What you’ll need:

  • ½ cup of Argan oil via Amazon or Olive oil
  • Plastic wrap
  • Towel

Procedure:

  1. Take the ½ cup of the argan oil or the olive oil
  2. Apply the oil directly unto hair.
  3. Massage your scalp and your hair.
  4. Wrap your hair with plastic wrap and then cover everything up with a towel.
  5. Wait for 60 minutes.
  6. Shampoo your hair and rinse off the oil.

Coconut is my all time favorite but some have asked us if they could use other oils without the coconut oil. The answer is YES. Olive oil and argan oil are natural conditionners, which are good alternatives if you don’t have any coconut oil.

The Egg and Olive Oil hair mask

The egg olive oil hair mask

What you’ll need:

  • 1 whole egg beaten
  • 1 cup of olive oil (or you can substitute it with coconut oil if olive oil isn’t available)
  • A mixing bowl

Procedure:

  1. Combine the two ingredients.
  2. Mix well.
  3. Now, apply this mixture on hair.
  4. Cover it with your shower cap.
  5. After 30 minutes, shampoo your hair and rinse off the mixture.

If you noticed, egg is a common ingredient in most of the recipes. The reason is that the egg, especially the egg yolk, is rich in fat and protein. And, this is exactly what your hair needs for it to be moisturized and to make them stronger. It will help coat your hair.

The Banana and coconut Oil hair Mask

the banana coconut hair mask

What you’ll need:

  • 1 medium banana
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • A mixing bowl

Procedure:

  1. In the bowl, mash up the banana and add in the coconut oil. (Beware the scent is yummy 😉
  2. Apply it on hair.
  3. Massage it unto your scalp and the strands of your hair.
  4. Leave it on for 30 minutes.
  5. Shampoo your hair and rinse off the hair mask.

Bananas are known for being rich in potassium. The potassium is said to strengthen hair and fix the damages to it without weighing it down. Coconut oil, on the other hand, is the ingredient that will super charge your hair as we told you in the previous recipes. So that is a great combination to repair your hair and moisturize it.

The Milky Avocado hair Mask

the milky avocado hair mask

What you’ll need:

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 3 tablespoons of Milk  (don’t use a low fat milk, you want the fat here haha)
  • Mixing or mashing tools
  • A small mixing bowl

Procedure:

  1. Place your avocado into your mixing bowl.
  2. Mash it until there are no more chunks.
  3. Add in your milk.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Apply it unto hair and massage it from root to tip.
  6. Leave it on for 30 minutes.
  7. Rinse it off with the shampoo and conditioner you specifically have for bleached hair.

Milk is packed with essential nutrients and vitamins like the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, and other soluble vitamins B6, B12, and some proteins that can benefit your hair. Avocados brings those fatty acids that can help nourish your damaged hair.

The Aloe vera and Coconut hair mask

The aloe vera coconut hair mask

What you’ll need:

  • 2 tbsp aloe vera gel we like this brand here through Amazon )
  • 1 cup of coconut oil this brand is high quality and cost effective on Amazon
  • Mixing tools
  • A small mixing bowl

Procedure:

  1. In your small bowl, mix all of the ingredients together.
  2. It’s going to take a bit of effort to get everything mixed well but keep at it.
  3. Once everything is well blended, apply the mixture unto hair.
  4. Massage it as usual.
  5. Don’t forget to really work it in your tips and scalp.
  6. Leave it on for 60 minutes minimum.
  7. Rinse it off with the shampoo and conditioner you specifically have for bleached hair.

Frequency: Use as needed.

This recipe is really one of my favorite hair masks. Coconut oil is, as you know, my must have for hair repairing mask as it penetrates the hair shaft for optimum moisturization. Aloe vera is also a great conditionning agent as the main actives and its gel like structure has a similar role as keratin in hair. If you cannot find a daily conditionner you like, this recipe is really worth trying.

The Honey Banana yogurt hair Mask

The honey banana yogurt hair mask

What you’ll need:

  • 1 banana
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ½ cup plain yogurt (full fat and not flavored if possible)
  • Mixing or mashing tools
  • A small mixing bowl

Procedure:

  1. Mash your banana in your small bowl.
  2. Add in the two other ingredients.
  3. Mix everything well.
  4. Apply the mixture on hair.
  5. Massage it in and leave it on for 30 minutes.
  6. Rinse and shampoo your hair.

This mixture could get messy and you may need a fine tooth comb to get the banana chunks out of your hair. If you mashed up the banana real good, you might not have this problem but if you do, a fine toothed comb will be alright to use. The messiness is worth it, though, because this recipe will leave your hair clean and shiny.

So why use a yogurt? simply because yogurt is moisturizes, strengthens, detangles and has a mild cleansing action. The reason we need full fat is because we need as many fatty acids as possible to repair your damaged or dry hair.

Let the Experts Do the Repairing

hair experts

If your hair are really too damaged, or you don’t want to do the treatments yourself, you can let hair experts handle the situation because they have the experience and the right tools and products to target exactly what you need repaired. And besides, every time you take a trip to the salon, it’s going to feel like you’re getting pampered.

Here are salon treatments that you can ask your local salon about:

Salon Protein Treatments or Salon Keratin Treatments

Dry and damaged hair from bleach usually needs regular protein treatments to help the hair build up on the components lost. The protein treatment helps strengthen hair and prevent it from easily breaking.

How your salon does the treatment may vary depending on your salon’s protein treatment products or brands they work with.

Usually, after a haircut, the protein treatment product is applied unto hair and massaged. It is then wrapped with something to gently heat up the product on the scalp and then rinsed out. Then they usually let your hair dry naturally if your hair is too damaged.

One of the protein treatment is based on Keratin, which has become very popular and it’s no surprise because it was one of the most effective treatments in the market that can restore hair. It replaces the missing components your hair lost during the bleaching process and it strengthens it and nourishes it at the same time.

BUT I said it “was” one of the most effective treatments in the market on purpose because after the launch of the revolutionary Olaplex treatments, those keratin protein treatments lost some popularity. If really you want to get your bleach hair repaired, you should have a look at olaplex treatments.

Olaplex Treatments

You already know this method that we discussed about, above with the following title : the miracle hair treatment. (how it works, how to use it, the price)

This one is fairly new though but it really took the industry by surprise, no one was expecting such an effective product. it’s got Kim K’s seal of approval all over it. Reliable sources point out that it’s how she went from brown hair to platinum blonde without damaging her hair. As you know the olaplex basically works by helping recreate bonds that will repair your hair and make it shiny and silky smooth. We definitely think you should give the olaplex treatment a try ( we bought ours here on Amazon ) and do the treatment yourself, it is definitely cheaper this way.

Hot Oil Treatments

There is another option you can check if the damage is not too important : a hot oil treatment, which is very similar to when you deep condition your hair. It will kinda give your hair that must needed moisture it needs to look healthy and shiny. The procedure is mostly the same with when you do a DIY deep conditioning: apply the product, wrap it or cover it, let it sit or apply minimal heat and then rinse. A hot oil treatment is most probably the most affordable among the treatments mentioned but is limited in terms of results.

We hope this article about how to repair bleached hair really helped you pick a solution that will work for your case. Feel free to let us know what you thought about it, or what treatments you tested to treat your damaged hair. We would love to hear about your awesome results 🙂

In the meantime, as usual, be awesome.
