The absolute first thing I wrote about and that my blog got known for was nails.
Here you'll find swatches, nail designs and tutorials.
After a while with just nails, I started writing about makeup as well. I'm not very good at it, but I love it!
So in this blog, I share my experiences with you as I learn more and more about it.
Not everything in my life is about makeup and nails, so I have decided to share tiny things from my day to day life.
You will also find tutorials that don't go under the other categories here such as jewelry or photography.
Luigi was introduced on the blog when I got him 8 weeks old April 2012. I get a lot of emails and questions about him, so he deserves his own blog.
We adopted Lille when she was 5 years old and she is now.. 5 years old. It's very recent, but it feels like she has been with us forever.
The blog is written through dogs eyes so they're the ones talking!
You have entered my best hideaway; this is the place I run to to get away from anything negative in life. I don't get too personal in my blog because I have been through a lot and I prefer not to think about it. Instead I run here and I write about things that make me happy, which in turn I hope makes you happy.
It’s great to be able to get away and take a break with stuff that in reality doesn’t mean much and just have fun with it.
I'm 26 years old and live in Oslo, Norway. I came here with my family when I was 4 years old, but I'm originally Kurdish from Iraq from the town Slemani.
I was lucky enough to win the Beauty Blogger of The Year award at the 2013 Vixen Blog Awards here in Oslo, Norway.
I share random things I find fun such as nail polish, hair products, photography, movies, random inspiration, DYI projects ect. Just pick which blog you want to follow and read!
I work as a professional photographer and retoucher by day and you can see my website at http://www.halataskari.com if you wish.
If your enquiry is about product review; make sure it's cruelty free. If it's not then I'm not interested.
What’s your name? Is it really Sophie?
Yes, it’s really Sophie. It’s my second name though; my name is Halat Sophie. I usually just go by Halat.
Do you speak Kurdish?
Yes. Sorani. Choni. :-)
How old are you?
25 for life. (Read: 26)
What kind of camera do you use?
I use a Canon 5D Mark II for my nail polish swatches and a Canon S100 for everything else.
Do you use a lightbox?
No, I only use natural light for my pictures. During fall/winter, I use an Ott-Lite lamp.
Which base coat and top coat do you use?
I use ORLY – Bonder as basecoat and I use two different top coats. Seche Vite and Linda Johansen; which ever one is closest. I have recently also begun using Cult Nails Wicked Fast which I think I like more than Seche Vite!
How do you paint your nails so perfectly?
Practice makes perfect! If I make a mistake I can’t live with, I just take a tiny brush dipped in acetone and remove it. I try to avoid the big mistakes though so I usually don’t do any clean-up at all.
How do you get good at nail design?
You try and fail and try and succeed.
I can’t get tape design to work! It always rips up the polish underneath and my lines don’t get crisp like yours. What am I doing wrong?
If you don’t wait long enough for you nail polish to dry, it’ll will come up with the tape. You can try to unstickify the tape a bit by using it a couple of times on your tape and you can speed up the drying process of your base color by using a speedy top coat. Remember, striping tape isn’t nearly as sticky as normal household tape so you don’t have to wait as long. As for the crisp lines; all you have to remember is to take the tape off before the nail polish has a chance to dry. If it dries; it gets ugly.
